BrainUp Neurofeedback

How does it work?

During a session, the Iasis MCN device is connected to the client’s head via five small, lightweight electrodes. The device reads the client’s brainwaves via these electrodes, and then feeds back to the client their own dominant brainwave plus an offset frequency. This is like holding a mirror up to the brain – it gives your brain enough information to work with to help to self-regulate your autonomic nervous system.

What is the autonomic nervous system and why would I need “self regulate”?

The autonomic nervous system is that part of the human nervous system which creates a “fight or flight” response when confronted with stressful situations. There are actually two sides to this nervous system: 1) the sympathetic nervous system (which creates the “fight, flight, freeze or fawn” response) and 2) the parasympathetic nervous system (which creates a “rest, digest, heal and feel” response). Under prolonged stress, the parasympathetic can cause one to “shut down” resulting in a condition known as “dorsal vagal freeze.”

The brain can get “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze state (sympathetic system on), and have difficulty returning to the rest, digest, heal and feel state (parasympathetic system on).  Ongoing anxiety, for example, is one of many states where the brain can become inflexible and struggle to shift to a different state of mind.  Iasis MCN provides feedback to the brain to help create greater neuroplasticity so that the brain can move back and forth between these sympathetic and parasympathetic states appropriately.

The Iasis MCN device does not entrain your brain to a “perfect” brain state, but rather it feeds back information to your brain about itself, so that the brain can self regulate and create new neural pathways. The Iasis MCN device can stimulate the brain to also create new neurons in the brain. The brain is capable of healing itself when given this very gentle form of stimulation by the Iasis MCN device.

See the videos below for more information about the autonomic nervous system that Iasis Microcurrent Neurofeedback affects.

“I was diagnosed with ADHD in college and wanted to see if Iasis could help manage some of my symptoms. My Iasis sessions with BrainUp Neurofeedback markedly improved my ability to focus, my intellectual stamina, and has lessened overall anxiety. I wholeheartedly recommend this treatment to anyone looking for long term solutions for ADHD, or anxiety.”

Does the Iasis MCN device create a map of my brain function?

No. The Iasis MCN does not map out brain function. As an EEG device, it detects your brainwaves, and then bathes the whole brain in a signal based on your own brainwaves—feeding back to the brain information which it can use to heal itself and regulate your own autonomic nervous system.

While we don’t map the brain, we do, however, provide a free assessment of brain function using a different device named the BrainGauge. This device is an assessment tool which provides a snapshot of of several key brain functions. These results from the Brain Gauge help us to gauge progress over the course of your sessions.
